I've recently come across some rave reviews for Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Unsweetened Almond Beverage - Chocolate Flavour (and it turns out the low carb grocery carries it.) Here's the review from iateapie.net -- I like this site (some good ideas for maintenance food choices,) but fair warning: it makes me hungry.

Apparently the "milk" is delicious once you add a little sweetener... tastes just like chocolate milk, or hot chocolate if you heat it. It can also be added it into other drinks or recipes for that chocolate hit. It's gluten, cholesterol and lactose free, plus it's listed as an excellent source of calcium, vitamins D & E, and a good source of vitamin A.

A side by side serving size comparison with the Danone Fit n'Lite (garnish) shows that Almond Breeze has the almost the same or less of everything except sodium and potassium. Wonder if I can get this approved as a garnish?

Has anyone tried this product... pre-Dr.B maybe? Did you like it or no?

Danone 1 serving 113g       Almond Breeze Chocolate Beverage 240 ml
60 cal                              45 cal
total fat 3g                       total fat 3.5g
cholesterol 10mg               cholesterol 0mg
sodium 25mg                    sodium 180mg
total carbs 3                      total carbs 3g
potassium 85mg                 potassium 230mg
protein 5g                         protein 3g

The vanilla flavour has even better numbers: only 40 cal, 3 g fat and 2 carbs.

I haven't purchased it yet. I've only seen it in reviews and then on thelowcarbgrocery.com site.

Has anyone found this in the GTA at a regular grocery store?

I've seen the unsweetened original (no flavourings) at Loblaws. It's stored on the shelves (unrefrigerated) where the soy milk is kept.

The "numbers" on this look really good.  They sell it in all the grocery stores around here so I will have to give it a shot.  I really like my Hood Calorie Countdown "reduced carbohydrate dairy beverage", but am interested in giving the Almond Breeze a try.

Found the unsweetened original and vanilla today at Richard's Whole Foods in St. Petersburg.  My local Publix didn't have the unsweetened, but supposedly a couple Publix stores in Tampa do.  Richard's Whole Foods is real close by and is a small independent store, so I'm happy to support them.  I bought both flavors.  After they chill awhile in the fridge we'll see how they are.

Good news.  All flavours of Almond Breeze are carried by Whole Foods Market on Avenue Road in Toronto for anyone who is near the downtown area.   :)

Nope.  You'd have to get your clinic to approve it.
