Ok, I just returned from running errands and it is hot outside. I needed to get a protein in but wanted something cold. So, I came up with this.
AdvantEdge Chocolate Protein Drink 2 Tbsp. Walden Farms Chocolate Syrup 2 Cups Ice Small amount of water as needed.
I put all of this in my super duper blender and what came out was the consistency of the homemade snow cream I remember eating as a kid (I didn't always live in Florida). It makes a BIG bowl full and is quite refreshing. I don't see any reason why the Dr. B shakes wouldn't work and I wonder how the Vanilla shake and the pancake syrup would taste? I may have to try that another day. It melts pretty fast, so I use a straw and spoon to eat it.
1 protein 1 garnish
I am counting the ice/water as part of my liquid intake for the day. What total you get would depend on how much you add. I had to add the water to get my blender to process the ingredients correctly.
My brain is just churning now to come up with some interesting variations.

Vanilla shake and caramel dip sounds awesome. Too bad I'm out of caramel dip and the low carb store is closed. They might have it at Publix -- have to go check...

I guess on maintenance I will be able to have the caramel dip finally--Yippee. I am in need of visiting Holly at the store or at least placing an online order for several items.

I'm not on maintenance and have a close relationship with the carmel dip am I not supposed to?? I will be crushed if I'm not...devastated even
I made a food ledger that I have attached to my diet sheet so the nurses can see what I am eating and have this listed, nobody has said anything to me yet.?
But your recipe sounds yummy, I can't wait to try it!

Nickster, Your nurses may not have a problem with it. All we can do is to submit an item for approval. Some folks get the OK and others don't.

I am wondering if you added some cooled decaf coffee this might be a suitable solution to the Ice Capp dilemma a week or so ago.

No, they were just closed at that time (so I couldn't make it right then).

I made your variant tonight Carol, with a vanilla Dr. B shake, about 6 ice cubes, and about 2 heaping tablespoons of Walden caramel dip. Added some liquid Splenda for good measure. Very tasty. Next time I want to make it with the chocolate syrup.

This has become a daily treat for me. If I want to "get in" a protein, I make it with a Dr. B Vanilla shake, 2 tablespoons of Walden Farms chocolate syrup, some liquid Splenda, and 5 ice cubes. If I don't want to use up a protein serving, then I use 1 cup of the Hood Calorie Countdown (low carb 2% milk) instead of the Dr. B shake. Either way it tastes great and is a wonderful treat.
Of course the option to use milk instead of the Dr. B shake is only an option on maintenance -- not the strict diet.
Thanks for this Shawn. It really is awesome!

I tried last night the following : DR. B Vanilla Shake Ice cubes 1 Tbsp Sugarfree preserve Liquid splenda to taste.
Froze it for a few hours. It tasted like strawberry ice cream.
It was such a refreshing treat...felt like cheating, but completely approved !
Enjoy !

Shawn, your Chocolate Iced Surprise has spawned a lot of experimentation and happiness here. I just wanted to add that I've made another addition that really puts the whole thing over the top.
I do the usual:
1 c. 2% milk* or 1 Vanilla Dr. B Shake 5 ice cubes 2 Tbsp. (or 3 if I'm feeling the need) Walden Farms Chocolate Syrup Liquid Splenda 1/4 tsp. McCormick Pure Peppermint Extract**
Oh my goodness -- this replaces those mint Girl Scout cookies that are no longer something I'd consider buying. Note that 1/4 tsp. of the peppermint extract is perfect, and more is not better (used 1/2 tsp. the first time and it was waaaaaaaay too much).
* Milk only an option on maintenance ** The Peppermint extract is over 80% alcohol. You're only using 1/4 tsp. of it, but even so, alcohol is not permitted on strict. I really don't know if it counts/matters, but if you want to be absolutely certain that you're not cheating, either find an organic peppermint extract that doesn't have alcohol or wait until maintenance for this (or ask your clinic if it is OK).

Two more variants of this awesome shake, but these are both for Mainenance only.
Both start with the "base" shake:
1 c. 2% milk* or 1 Vanilla Dr. B Shake 5 or 6 ice cubes (enough to make it so thick the blender struggles) 2 Tbsp. (or 3 if I'm feeling the need) Walden Farms Chocolate Syrup Liquid Splenda
The two new variants are to add either:
1 banana* -or- 1 Tbsp peanut butter*
*Maintenance only
I made this with the peanut butter yesterday and it was awesome. I made it with the banana today and that was awesome too. I'm not sure which of these two latest variants is my favorite, but so far they are both the best I've made.
Thanks again for this recipe idea Shawn!!!
Next test will be to add a shot of decaf espresso. That reminds me. I need to go brew the espresso now so I can chill it in the fridge so it will be ready to use when I need it.

Brian, You can freeze your expresso in an ice cube tray and just take out what you need when you need it. Just a convenience idea. Have you tried the peanut butter/ banana shake?

I assume you're asking if I've tried peanut butter and banana together (since my post mentioned I'd tried them separately). I've not tried peanut butter and banana, but that would probably be yummy too (but getting a big high on calories at that point unless it was going to be the major part of a meal).
Good tip on the espresso ice cubes.

Thank you so much for this idea. I finally got around to making it. I added decaf espresso and caramel dip and it was just like a huge caramel mocha frappuccino. Starbucks, I miss you no more! Next time I'm making a vanilla bean frappe.

yeah, this is how i get my iced-capp now. Often i do not even want to use my protein for this treat so i just use a little bit of cold water and add milk, caramel dip or other stuff i like and lots of liquid splenda.

Two more additions to the "ways to make Shawn's drink" list...
Both of these should probably be restricted to maintainers since they involve things not on the food list (although they are pretty benign things that you could possibly get approved).
First, the one that required the most experimentation to get right...
Orange creamsicle slushy:
Make the shake with the usual base:
1 Dr. B Vanilla Shake Sweetener to taste (I use the equivalent of 1 cup of sugar) 6 ice cubes
To that add:
1 tsp McCormick Pure Orange Extract*
* This extract is 80% alcohol, so would most likely be off limits for strict. It's only a tsp, but don't do it without asking your clinic.
This was fantastic. It is vying with the peanut butter variant as my favorite right now. The alcohol in the orange extract has the bonus effect of changing the freezing point of the mixture and allowing a much smoother/finer blend -- much more shake like and with less crystals. Due to this I used 6 ice cubes instead of the usual 5. I'm thinking the helpful effect of the alcohol may help solve my slurpee and popsicle creating troubles (another topic).
This was my third attempt at an orange variant. The first time I used 3 of the Crystal Light "morning sunrise" singles. They gave it too much texture due to the fiber they must put in those singles to thicken the water and make it more like orange juice. Then I tried a whole packet of orange Kool-Aid (the unsweetened stuff that you usually add sugar to). Again, not enough orange flavor and too much texture. The tsp of McCormick pure orange extract was perfect!!!
Strawberry Shake:
Again, start with the base:
1 Dr. B Vanilla Shake Sweetener to taste (I use the equivalent of 1 cup of sugar) 5 ice cubes
To that add 2 or 3 Tbsp of Walden Farms strawberry syrup. This isn't on the food list, but of course it is calorie free like everything else. The strawberry fruit spread is allowed, but I don't think that would work.
Anyway, these were both really yummy. I'm thinking of doing an anise (black licorice flavored) shake tomorrow. That might be nasty. I kinda miss my Sambuca, so if it works, it may be a nice substitute. We'll see...

Ohhh My Goodness ..... two Dr.B dieters who used to live for iced cream, couped up in the house because thunderstorms killed our 35 degree day that we planned on spending on loungers catching some rays, this recipe, a Magic Bullet and a whole lost of creativity!!!! We came up with some pretty good variations on this one today. I've actually made a bunch up and put them in the freezer in my Magic Bullet cups - will take them out an hour or so before I want them and just pop them back on the bullet to blend again. Here's a few ideas:
- if you have the Carb & Sugar control yogurt on hand, one of these added in makes it more like iced cream with a creamier texture.
- vanilla shake, vanilla yogurt, sugar free cherry preserve, cherry limeonade drink crytals and blend - vanilla shake, peach yogurt, sugar free peach preserve, peach iced tea drink crystals and blend - strawberry shake, strawberry yogurt, sugar free strawberry/blueberry preserve, grape drink crystals and blend - choc. shake, vanilla yogurt, walden choc dip, walden caramel di and blend.
Not sure which is my favorite yet but will let you know once I eat them, rather than just a taste of each as I did this evening
Thanks for starting this post - couldn't be more timely with the humity right now.

OK, I tried the anise extract today. I thought it might be nasty, but it was actually very good. If you like black licorice, you'll probably like this. It was a good replacement for my Sambuca. As with all of the extracts I've tried so far, the anise is about 80% alcohol, so again, you might want to restrict this to maintenance.
So, we start with the basic shake base:
1 Dr. B Vanilla Shake Artificial sweetener equal to a cup of sugar (I like it sweet!) 6 ice cubes (the alcohol lets us use more ice)
Add:
2 teaspoons McCormick Pure Anise extract
I used two teaspoons to make a really strong black licorice flavor. You might want to start with 1 and see how you like it and go up from there.
Very very yummy!

It's in the grocery store in the spice aisle along with the vanilla and other extracts -- at least it is around here. I'm definitely making that one again tomorrow.
