Today is my 4th day and I am struggling so bad with this diet! I am always hungry and miss my sweats! I don't wanna give up but I feel like I can do this anymore! I have already weighed in once so maybe tomorrow when i weigh in it might help!!!

Although you don't weigh much to begin with, take inspiration from those who have succeeded.  You will feel tons better when you reach goal.  Also, the hunger and sense of deprivation will subside in a few days if you stay strict.  If not, this feeling will never end.  watch and see.  Chin up...you can do it.

Affie is so right.  As long as you follow the rules to a "T" the cravings and the hunger will go away and then you will be free of the junk food trap.  The rest is a piece of cake (woops ....  sorry)  compared to the first few days and as each day goes by and you see that weight coming off you feel better and better......you feel in control ! :)

When I stopped smoking I wrote down on a piece of paper the 5 most important reasons I wanted to stop.  I kept that paper in my wallet and pulled it out to read and reread every time I had a bad craving that I was struggling with.  Perhaps this is something that might also help you.

Stay strong and focused Jennifer.....you, like the rest of us, CAN do this ! We will be watching you and cheering you on.

Hang in there! It might seem tough at first, but, it gets easier once you're into the diet.

a little off topic.

I didn't have a pleasant weekend..

I hate the weekends, I'm bored, things I shouldn't eat are always laying around. I'm so mad that I cheated and had a bit too many of the bread servings, I regret it a lot and hopefully it doesn't effect my weigh in tomorrow morning. *sigh* However..I did throw everything out and told myself I won't be touching these for the next 6 months. :P

@Ada. I think I'll do the same. Write down the 5 most important things why I shouldn't have a little too much of the allowed servings. :)

Jennifer...it's early days.  Stick with it.  Ada suggested writing down why you are doing this.  I think it's a great idea.  I have a list of 35 motivations for me to do this, some are serious and some might seem silly to others, but are very important to me.  Somewhere else it was suggested that every time you have a great moment that makes you feel like it's worth doing what you're doing then you should right it down.  When you're feeling down you can read it and remind yourself how good you felt then and it will keep you on track.

Your cravings will go in time if you stick to the diet.  I find it helps to always keep water around and just drink if I feel going to the kitchen and getting something that you're not allowed to eat.  Another good thing is gum - there's quite a few we're allowed and when I get that minty taste in my mouth it puts me off eating anything for the time being ...and before I know it I've forgotten that i'm craving something!

If you feel hungry, munch on salad.  I know it's hard to do at first if you've never really eaten much salad, but trust me, it gets much easier.  I now have days when I crave salad if I haven't eaten it!  Like you said on another thread, there is a lot of it available so use it to your advantage.

Another thing that I find helps is thinking of this diet as a way of life.  Once I reach my goal I plan to stay there and continue to stay healthy for the rest of my life.  That means continuing to eat fruits, salads, proteins, drinking lots of water etc.  There are so many different things that you can do with the foods we are allowed and some things I have tried and I have loved - I won't stop eating them just because I will come off the diet.  The things I eat now are the things I will normally eat in my day to day life in the future.  Of course in the future we won't be as restricted, but the theory will always be the same.

Search the forum - there are so many little tips out there that will help you along the way.  I have just named a couple that have come to my mind.  Everyone has rough days on here, but there are ways to help you stick to the diet....and it will be worth it when you reach your goal!!!

Good luck!

Shilps :)

I hear you ...being at home around foods you shouldn't have is tough.  Well done for getting rid of all of it & getting straight back on track!  At least you know you won't do it again.

Good luck tomorrow morning!

Hang in there Jennifer.  The first weekend has been hard for me too, I'm hoping that weigh in tomorrow morning goes well!

Jennifer, I hate to rain on your parade, but you've only just begun!  Obviously you're not in ketosis or you wouldn't have the cravings.  Why don't you go read the recipes section and find one that appeals to you, and make it?  I found sugar free jello worked for me, or a piece of allowed fruit cut into tiny pieces that I savored for a half an hour.  I've never bothered with any of the low carb sweets and yet I normally have a sweet tooth, cause fruit was my salvation.  I've never eaten as many strawberries as I have since starting Dr. B. and I'm not sick of them yet.  If all else fails, go to bed with a good book (after brushing your teeth) and you won't feel like ruining the fresh feeling in your mouth (or getting out of a cozy bed).

p.s. another wacky tip that worked for a friend of mine:

1: find out the calories in whatever sweet you would normally eat (if you managed to stop at one)
2.  if more then 1 sweet a day, count them all up
3.  take the # of calories and multiply by the # of times you'd have it during the week.
4.  Voila - the answer to your problem.  When you see the cold hard #'s it's usually a wake up call.
5.  Figure out how many calories of said "sweet" you'd consume in a month and divide by 3,500.  Now you know the pounds you're saving.

She claimed it worked for her!  I did that calculation with coke which was my downfall and could not believe when I saw the calories I consumed in a month - very empty ones at that.

Jennifer -- unfortunately this is "dues paying" time and you've just got to pay them to get to the good part.  Having worked with 3 close friends (two guy pals and my wife) as they struggled through their first week or two, I can tell you that the hunger and cravings can test the will of even the strongest.  The good news is, even though it feels like you can't do it, and that the torment will never end -- you can, and it will.  It may take as much as two weeks, but there will come a day when you'll be like "hey, I don't feel like gnawing my arm off today -- how odd".  And then from then out the diet should be a breeze.  Problem is you've got to get through those first couple weeks to get to that point.  If you can, you're on the fast track to victory.  If you can't, you'll never know how easy it could have been to lose the weight.

Well said Brian ! I was frightened by my hunger during the first week and the One single thing that comforted me enormously was hearing from other Forum Members who said they All experienced this. JenniferB please continue to write in this forum. We have all had to go through this initiation rite and came through. I promise you will too if you stick with it for the next week. We are all here cheering you on and Know that if We can do it so can you !

Another thought.....rejoice in feeling hungry....because then you know the diet is working the way it should be (at this stage) and you are on your way to a new you.  Each time you feel hungry.....visualize the new you....you then might actually enjoy the feeling ! :;):

That was something I did while on strict.  While I got to the point that I didn't necessarily feel "hungry", sometimes I got a bit of a empty, active feeling in my stomach (kinda like a stomach growl I guess).  I decided that was the fat monster eating up all my fat and learned to appreciate it and welcome it.   :D

Hey Jen! Keep striving and pursuing your dream of perserverance and accomplishment! Honestly girl - it IS hard for the first few days for SURE and it does get easier in the sense of not being hungry! Hang in there! I know you were SO excited to start and anxious to see the results - stick with it and you WILL see FABOULOUS results Hun!

Jennifer,

You are enduring the toughest part. You don't have enough time behind you to see and feel that it is worth it and that darn "hunger" is gnawing at you, when I first started sometimes I would just have to go to bed.  I was frustrated and concerned about whether what I was going through would even be worth it.  I felt sure I would be the client that Dr. B could do nothing with.  But I worked the plan and played around with the allowed foods and found some favorites, read the forums and endured.  Pretty soon, I was feeling good and had some successes behind me and got stronger with my resolve.  Doesn't mean I didn't sometimes meander through the grocery store feeling sorry for myself but it got better and it will for you also as long as you stay 100% strict.

Now I have a name to what I've been thinking - THE FAT MONSTER....coming to gobble up all those unwanted fat deposits.  Yay!! :)

Look at my ticker for a split second to know I'm not a runner (hehe) but I have a gym teacher for a fiance and he mentions the marathon wall.  When running, there is a part of the run that seems to hit you like a wall....if you can break through that, it's managable on the other side....honestly, this diet is the same.  The only time I'm hungry is when I should be...it gets better. Honest.  :)

Jennifer, I'm glad the feedback is helping you - everyone on here is so supportive and has BEEN where you are now.

I know that feeling of hunger all too well and it is what (along with not wanting to be fat anymore) keeps me on STRICT.

I realize that if I wander off of strict I'll have that hunger/craving again.

Make sure you're getting in your water and even try having some low sodium chicken broth to sip on when you're really hungry.  That is a 'different' taste than water and feels like you're having something substantial.

On that note, I'm going to try the chicken broth with some shiritaki tofu noodles tonight :)  YUMMY might even throw in some chicken to make it official!!

Yippee!  Stay strong - you can do it!!

Good news.....you made it!!       I would ask the nurse tomorrow.....the answer you will probably get is be sure to eat all your protein, next important is the veggies and the fruit and "breads" are the least important as far as nutrients go. Let us know what they say tomorrow Jennifer and welcome to the land of ketosis ! :)

Yes, do make sure you eat all your protein! That will ensure your body doesn't eat away at your muscles. Woo hoo, Jennifer! It'll be *so* much easier from here on in.

the page 1 comment about keeping a note with you with the reasons this is so important, the ones that motivate you is amazing.  I have done this before but completely forgot about it.  This can make all the difference in the world in those moments of temptation!

Thanks
