Hey there, everyone.  I'm an official "newbie" and will be going to my consultation at the Dr. Bernstein Clinic in Edmonton tomorrow.  I am VERY excited....and slightly nervous!  Not sure why...

I'm enjoying reading these forums and have seen a great deal of support.  That is wonderful.  :o)  Everyone needs support!

*Big breath*  Alrighty.  Wish me luck!

Welcome aboard LaurieLaurie !!!  Excited - yes, but don't be nervous!  It will be fine & you will be on your way to experiencing what you never thought possible in such a short period of time.

Good luck tomorrow - we will all be waiting to hear how it went.

Thanks, Michelle!  I'm getting ready to go, and feeling great!  The nervousness is gone.  :oD

I'll be sure and post how it went!  Have a great Thursday!

Welcome LaurieLaurie. I'm glad to hear the nervousness is gone.  There's nothing to be nervous about. You're going to be melting those pounds away in no time flat.  Let us know how the consult went okay?

All went well!

The ladies at the Terra Losa clinic are very nice....my nurse/consultant was Elaine, and we hit it off very well!  :o)

Spent the evening reading...was quite impressed with the recipe book...wow.  So many choices for chicken!  Which is what I'll be eating most of the time being that I don't eat seafood.  LOL.  Needless to say, I'm off to go shopping today!

I'm curious about something.  PC Diet Cola is allowed, but Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke are not.  Something to do with the sugars...?  Does anyone drink the Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi and are still having good results?  Just curious.  I'm in a small town, so it's a 45 minute drive to get some PC!!

Thanks in advance for your input!  Onwards and upwards!

Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke are allowed, but unless they are the caffeine free version you can only have one serving of it per day (due to the caffeine).  Did they specifically tell you Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke were not allowed?  If so, it would be news to me.

Diet Coke makes me retain fluid. I had one about a month ago and went up in weight. I won't be having anymore Diet Coke while on Dr. B. I can't take the stress of the scale going in the wrong direction.

You bet.  She told me only Diet Coke Zero was allowed out of the Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi colas.  And I'm addicted to Diet Pepsi...LOL.  Something to do with the sugars...

Hmmmm.  Seems I need them to clarify the next time I go....!

That would be contradictory to the food list.  The food list says any sugar free diet soda sweetened with aspartame is permitted, and is unlimited if it is caffeine free.  So, caffeine free diet Coke and caffeine free diet Pepsi should be unlimited.  Best thing to do is to ask them to show it to you on the food list (because it isn't there).

Coke Zero is "on the list", but honestly even that was an error -- I pointed out to them that Coke Zero has caffeine and they then added the limitation of "one per day" on it (which then what's the point of having it on the list because it is just like any other caffeinated diet beverage).

I drink Coke Zero, DIet Coke and DIet Pepsi.  SO far(touching wood) it hasn't held me back.

I've been drinking ALL Diet Pepsi and it's not hindering my weight loss at all.  :oD

So............my addiction is safe.  LOL

So, the big question to the caffeinated beverage drinkers is ... have you told the nurses you aren't following the diet, or do you limit yourself to one serving a day?

:D

Not following the diet...?  I am.  And I have told them I am drinking Diet Pepsi, yes.  I have no desire to be dishonest.  Never have, never will.

As of right now, I drink about 3 caffeinated Diet Pepsi a day, and caffeine-free otherwise.  Which they know.  Before I started (a week ago), I drank a case a day of caffeinated.  When I say I'm addicted, I am.  I am weaning myself.  If I quit cold turkey, I get headaches that are comparable to migraines.  No painkiller can touch them.  So for my own sanity, I am doing it slowly, and it is working.  I drink about 4L of water a day as well.

My thoughts?  I'm losing weight.  I'm feeling great. I've made a great choice to decrease my dependance on Diet Pepsi, and it's working.  So I'm quite alright with what I'm doing.

Hopefully my question came across as giving you a good natured hard time and not actually as being a jerk -- I had a big grin smiley in there, but I reread my post and it definitely didn't come off the way I intended.  Sometimes the written word doesn't work the way we want it to.

I am surprised that the clinic isn't griping at you about having 3 caffeinated beverages a day.  I don't think caffeine causes any problems at all with weight loss per se, but in some people I think it can cause you to feel hungry, and I think it also has a diuretic effect.

It sounds like your weight loss is going great.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words, Brian.  The clinic does know, but it is a call I have had to make for myself (and my own sanity AND for the sake of my children putting up with their Mom being unapproachable for days on end...LOL).  I am SO looking forward to NOT having any DP with caffeine.  I do not have an addictive personality, but I have drank Diet Pepsi since I was 18 (21 years), and have done so every single day.  Hmm.  Maybe  that IS an addictive personality!  LOL.

As for making you feel hungry, etc., I have heard that, too.  And was curious as to how that would go.  Well, as I was telling my friend on the phone this morning who is also going to Dr. B., I can't believe how NOT hungry I am!  She is having the same experience.  And moreso, the cravings are completely gone.  Yep.  Miracle.  :oD

You're right.  The internet is wonderfully void of tone of voice, grins & giggles, and pokes & jabs.  :oD  No harm.  We've all had that experience.

Thanks, Brian.  And good luck to you as well.  We're in this together.  *POKE*

EDIT:  Holy typos...LOL
