Has anyone been successful in getting their Extended Health plans to pay for these (Vitamin B Shots)? My plan is reimbursing me for the K-Lyte as I got a prescription and bought it a pharmacy but I wanted to know if anyone has been successful with the Vitamin B shots, which are so much more expensive.

Shelley,

I get my shots as well as my original consult convered but it is an extended health account we have at work, not the regular plan.  I got it all pre-approved before I started the program.  They will cover it because it is medically supervised...technically you can claim it on the income tax if that doesn't work as well.

There's an older topic here which outlines how my insurance covered me.

I'm just about to send in my consult and first two weeks, so i hope they can help me cover some of my exspencies, since the more i get back, the longer i can afford to be on this wonderful diet. :)

Thanks for posting that older link, Dave. It sounds as if I'll be out of luck as I don't have a "spending account" but I'll try the "under doctor's care" and see if that works. My plan is Great West but my husband's is Manulife and it seems someone has already been told no there. I'll try and call them and see what I can do. No matter really as I'll be staying on this regardless!!

Let me know what happens Dangerous Curves, especially if you get covered, what the name of your plan was.

Best wishes to everyone on today's weigh in!!

Shelley,

I am with Great West Life as well and they said no under the regular plan, I had to use my "spending" account.

I am also with Great West Life, have only the regular plan, and they said no.

Thanks for the information Sara and Ada. Doesn't seem to be much point if both of you tried on the regular plan and I don't have that "spending account". Oh well, Dr B is a great program and I'm just glad to be doing it! At least I get the K-Lyte covered.

ShelleyV, make sure you call both insurance companies to double-check, maybe your companies have some kind of extended plan. You will need to have DIN numbers for vitamin b6 and b12 shots when you call. My husband`s insurance is also Manulife, and they do not cover it, and mine is Desjardins and when I called I was told that shots and initial consultation will not be covered under regular plan (they cover 80% of the shots if the shots were bought in pharmacy, which is not our case), but can be covered under health spending account. But when I submitted the claim, they paid 80% for the shots (as if I got the shots from the pharmacy) and initial consultation, just 20% had to be covered under HSA. So it`s always good to check and also send a claim in case the person you talked to over the phone made a mistake.

Thanks Jelena. Do you have a health spending account? I'm wondering whether they paid it out of that account. Maybe I'll submit it anyway, never know they can only turn it down.

Yes, I have HSA and I got all covered - for the shots 20% was covered under HSA, 80% under regular plan.
