Hey there,
I am new to the forums..... I have been reading through the forums for days now and for the last few week I have been seriously considering starting the Dr. B diet. I have a few questions after reading some of the information.
I understand that when you are doing the diet you will receive injections of B6, B12 and potassim... I have talk to my extended medical company and they do not cover any of them. I am trying to be able to afford this program so I was wondering if someone could tell me if the shots are included in the price or if they are extra... also how much extra they are on top of the fee?
Thanks in advance for the info

the shots are included.. the consult + first week = $330.00. and you can buy the program per week ($160.00) up to eight weeks ($1183.00) and every weight in you will recieve a shot.

If you are serious, it is the best decision I have ever made. I have done ALL the other diets WW, Atkins, TOPS, Herbal Magic, etc, etc. and this is the first time I have felt in control. I am not starving and absolutely thrilled with how quick it moves. If you are in the mindset that this is it. You will not be disappointed, you are worth the $, besides why pay for other diets that you will just have to keep going back over and over. And you aren't on any scary drugs either. No jitters or fears of what will happen when you finish. My 2 cents! Good luck

Amanda
My extended health plan also said they didn't cover any of the shots or potassium but I asked the clinic for a prescription for the postassium, as I am on the K-Lyte and because I had a receipt from a pharmacy they seem to be covering it.
I too have tried all the other diets, including using Xencal, I never did reach goal and would regain it back. I am very hopeful that it will be different this time as I am planning to do maintenance for a full year and the maintenance costs I think are very reasonable.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Thanks for all of the kind words.
I looked into the injections and my extended medical online and it says that vitamins and minerals are not a benifit. I called and they said the same thing. Maybe If I decied to do the diet (99% that I will be starting before the new year) I will try asking for a prescription and see what happens. I have really good coverage with prescriptions and pharmacare.
I have been struggling with losing weight for quite a few years now. I have tried WW which was good for about three weeks. I can't handle eating what ever I want cause then I just eat too much. My dodctor put me on meridia which worked to help make me feel fuller faster but I didn't drop an weight cause I was eating all the wrong things.
I'm fed up with being over weight now and I need to do something about it now!!!

Hi Amanda,
I just started the program last week and went through the same thoughts as you regarding the costs. Now that I am into the swing of the program, the money I am saving on not buying all that junk I was putting in my body helps subsidize the overall costs. In the past, I found myself going to the grocery store just to go shop not because I really needed anything - and I wasted a lot of money on food I never ate. On top of that, I saw a couple friends go through the program with amazing results and I thought to myself what is my long term health worth to me? When you think about it that way, the dollars and cents start to look like an investment rather than an expense.
At my clinic (and probably others I imagine) there are promotions to give free weeks/shots when you ante up for two weeks or four weeks. I 'invested' in in a four week package and got two weeks free - now I am all in and committed long term. If this program was inexpensive, then in the beginning I probably wouldn't value it that much and not have the same compulsion to persevere.
Good luck Shane

Believe me it is worth it. It may seem expensive right now, but I look at it as an investment in my health. I am also the type that needs to keep very strict otherwise I would just eat everything. I definately plan on taking the maintenance package once I reach my goal. If I add all the programs I have paid for in the past and never completed, I am saving on Dr. B and getting results much quicker.

Amanda, Just do it!!!
I've been there and done that. Was on ww too, and like you, it worked for a short time. I have a sister who pooh poohed the idea of spending so much money on Dr B, and insisted she could do it on her own - she actually went to a Dr B clinic for a consult, and while waiting in the waiting room, noticed that all the people coming in were bigger than she, so she decided she is OK and didnt need it ( she weighs about 170lbs and is 5ft 2in). She left without having her consult done, and bought a $29.99 diet plan online, laughing at how little she was spending vs what I was, did the plan for a week or two, and quit. It's almost a year later and she is still struggling with the same issues, while I've lost 30lbs and maintained it. It was the best investment I've ever made in myself.
Since you have your hubby's support that's half the battle. And, I've found that it is much better to not tell anyone what you're doing - I just said I'm watching my diet that's all.
Welcome to the board, and did I mention, DO IT!!!! TODAY!

I totally went through the same thing regarding friends and family. They don't understand its very hard to change eating habits and change your lifestyle you have gotten to used to. I need the diet for the disclipline it provides. I eat out of boredom so I've learned to change my eating lifestyle.
I started the diet against all my family and friends thoughts. I just showed up at the clinic one morning and didn't tell anyone for a week. I haven't regretted it! Good luck and do this for yourself.

I am thinking now that it might be best for me to start on January 1st, 2009. I am worried that Christmas will be really hard while doing the diet. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
|
|
DonnaN Posted: Nov. 17 2008, 15:30 ET
Amanda...there will always be reasons for not starting...what are you waiting for?...i started before christmas - it didn't hurt me, i actually felt like it helped, i didn't gorge myself on all the foods that were unnecessary for survival...
another thing, truly it does not matter what people say to you about the diet - don't feel you have to defend yourself...avoid social situations at first until you have a good handle on the diet.
good luck

See thats what I was thinking. Last year at this time I was saying I wanted to lose weight before September 2008 because we were going to Hawaii, well Hawaii has come and gone and here I am still at the same weight. Really what am I waiting for?
|
|
Ada Posted: Nov. 17 2008, 15:48 ET
It's actually a good idea to start now so that you are, as Donna said, firmly entrenched in the diet by the time all the Xmas socializing starts and you will be in complete control of what you eat. You will see that the "high" of losing weight so rapidly far outranks any high you can get from eating or drinking the not so healthy stuff!

Amanda2009 Posted: Nov. 17 2008, 15:52 ET
You guys are totally right. now I just have to talk my hubby into helping me pay for it. I'm sure he'll have no problems.

Amanda2009 Posted: Nov. 17 2008, 16:56 ET
A quick question....... I have been reading posts on the forums, my goal weight is around the 140lb mark. When I went on the Dr. B website and did the healthy weight calculator it says I should be between 115-125lbs. I'm not sure I would look healthy at that weight... I don't think I have been that weight since maybe grade 8......14 years ago. Since then I have had two kids and two C-sections.
Do they want you to be your healthy weight or your own goal weight before you can go on maintenance?
|
|
ShelleyV Posted: Nov. 17 2008, 17:07 ET
Amanda
The clinic said my goal weight should also be between 115-125 lbs and when I started to laugh the nurse told me this she did mention that I could declare maintenance as high as 140 lbs which has always been my previous goal weight ( although I have never attained it!). I am thinking now that I may[U] want to try and go under that by as much as 10 lbs as I have a month holiday coming up in February and it might be nice to have a little wiggle room!
But I'm sure when you speak with them they will let you go on to maintenance at a higher weight.
