Shane On the Ontario food list it outlines some approved chewing gums and the allowed amount. My favourite gum is listed there but it is only one piece per day (Trident Splash Vanilla-Mint). Does anyone know why there is a limit on the number of pieces we are allowed to chew a day. The package says that it is 5 calories per piece...I am not going to eat 20 pieces a day so what is the harm in having 2 or 3 pieces a day. I find having gum in my mouth really helps keep my mind off the cravings I may have |

Libellule403 I remember reading that it has something to do with the amount of 'oil' in the gum... not sure of the specifics though... |

Kizmettrider i find it good as well, cuts down on the habit to put hand to mouth. |

ShelleyV I am curious about chewing gum as well. I generally try to save 2 (sometimes I even go over if I have really bad cravings) for the nightime. I usually have the Juicy Friuit. I have done this all along and it never seemed a problem but lately I seem to be struggling to stay in ketosis. Has anyone heard that excess gum or chewing it later in the evening may take you out of ketosis or interfere with your weightloss? |

Ada Sugerless gum contains sugar alcohol which can affect ketosis. Here is a thread on the subject. |

ShelleyV Thanks for the info Ada! I will definitely be much more careful! |

Shane Darnit! I thought I found my security blanket through the diet, guess not. Maybe I will pick up chewing on toothpicks instead... |

TofuHeart I eat 4 or 5 pieces of the allowed excel gum per day with bad no effects. It really takes the edge off when I feel like eating something sweet. It's for sure my guilty pleasure on this diet. Sometimes I just need something to chew on a bunch. Mind over matter I guess. ;) |
