This sounds good.  I assume the masala is a spice?  Do you have to get it at an Indian grocery or can you get it elsewhere?

I like 'kick' so I guess I'll need to find this.  Our stores don't have an Indian asile, but we do generally have an "ethnic foods" type aisle.  If I can't find it at a normal store I'm sure I can find and Indian market that has it.

Thanks!!!

Mmmmmm .... I've been dying for Indian Food.  My neighbors and I used to go for Indian Food at least once a week and I really miss it.  This may do the trick!  I suppose I could throw some chicken in there too for a whole meal.

If you can't find it you can make it yourself .. looks like a bit of work tho.

Garam Masala (an Indian seasoning)

2 g Net Carbs per Tsp.

(Makes 12 Tsp.)

Garam Masala is a seasoning made by blending dry-roasted, ground spices, such as black pepper, cumin, cloves, and cardamom, used in the cooking of India.

Ingredients

2 Tbsp. whole cumin seeds
2 Tbsp. whole coriander seeds
2 Tsp. cardamom seeds (seeds removed from the pods)
1 piece cinnamon stick, 3 inches long
3/4 Tsp. whole cloves
1 Tbsp. black peppercorns
4 bay leaves

Directions

Heat a heavy frying pan over medium heat.
Add the spices and roast, stirring constantly, until the spices are a few shades darker and are fragrant.
Transfer to a plate and cool.
Grind the spices to a powder in a spice mill, mortar and pestle, or coffee grinder.
Store in a covered jar.

Season modestly. Enjoy liberally!

You're right Roland -- that sounds like too much work -- but good to have the recipe anyway.  Thanks for posting it!

Just a note that I found the garam masala in the regular McCormick spice section in the grocery store.  I'm going to make this tonight, so I'll post a "field report" later...

This was quite tasty.  I added chicken to it.  I don't know if it was the masala or the jalapenos, but it had a decent kick to it.

Thanks!

I made this tonight but I added diced tofu in substitute for potato.  Not bad...it was dry and not has flavourful as the real thing but oh well.  I also added water while frying the onions a bit.  Instead of jalapeno I added red chili flakes and no cilantro.

Hi all

I am guessing that curry powder is allowed on strict?

In Edmonton if you go to the Spice World on the south side you can by the garam masala ground or whole...i buy it in a bag whole cos then i can vary the taste with what i pull out of the bag..yumm

as for curry, the powder, is legal...i've even been using a Jamaican (west indies) curry mix too...just note that i've been told by the dr.B doctor that mixture of spices can cause water retention...so for me, because i suffer from pitted edema, it's a once every two week treat for myself.
