I've been feeling kind of crappy recently. For 2 weekends in a row weight loss has stalled. I have no idea what it is with weekends and me, especially since I am a SAHM and my routine doesn't change between weekdays and weekends. Anyway, to that end, I thought it would be nice to have a place to post some small (or big) personal victories. I'll go first.

A couple days ago I discovered, quite by accident that I can put on and take off my size 22 pants without undoing them. Yay me!

I also discovered that melted Allégro cheese on mushrooms and flatbread makes me feel like I am eating some decadent.

Way to go Glenna!!

This a great thread idea. We all need celebrations even for little victories. I, like you, seem to stall on weekends.

My personal victory this week is actually hearing some positive comments about my weight loss. It's just now becoming apparant to others I guess. Yesterday I came to work feeling pretty good about how I looked and all I heard all day was how slim I'm looking. Now that's a totally relevant comment. Slim is not exactly how I look yet but I guess, compared to how I looked a month ago, it is.

I have to ask. What is SAHM?

Stay At Home Mom. SAHM I am!

Awesome, Paula! That's got to feel really good.

This is a great idea...I am down today, so can really use some boosting...so, perhaps typing this out will help.

I have had a couple personal victories - both happened on the weekend.

Saw an old, male friend. He noticed me weight loss big time and really made me feel good about it - I have a long way to go, but he made me feel feminine again - it felt so nice.

I moved my bedroom closet (it is a big, portable unit)- therefore, I had to remove my clothes. I found clothes I forgot I had and fit into some pants that made me look "shapely" again - not baggy, no shape pants. In addition, I am wearing a blazer today that I have not been able to fit into, as it was too tight across my shoulders/back.

Yah!

That's so cool, Geri. I tried on some old clothes last night. I found a shirt or 2 that fits, and 4 pairs of pants that will fit soon, but not now. (Size 22 pants are a bit big, and size 20 not big enough.)

GREAT TOPIC!

About 2 weeks ago I pulled out a pair of pants that I didnt even know that I had!  They were a size 18 and they still had the tag on them from when I bought them at a sale 2 years ago telling myself that they would fit soon!  Well, now they do!  YYYEEAAAAHHHH!!! GOOD JOB EVERYONE!

i already posted my exciting victory in the weigh in section, but i'll do it again:

i had a health assessment for my new job and victory 1: i did not lie about my weight... hee hee.

victory 2: we got talking about food, and when i told the nurse my favourite food was pancakes, she said "you don't look like you eat many pancakes!"

glenna74

Cool, dainty! Pancakes are good, aren't they? By the way, I *love* your avatar. I'm horribly out of touch with much popular culture.... is that a character from somewhere, or did you do it yourself?

glenna, it's a painting by a graffiti artist called "miss van"... she is from france and not very well-known, so you're not missing out. but she draws the cutest little plump girls, you should check her out!

Great post,  little victories are the smiles we all need to keep us going.
Im not down enough yet  but cannot wait to raid the back half of my own closets, find all the clothes I have outgrown.  Many too  also have the tags on them because they were good sales and I was going to get into them.
Now I know I will!
Keep up the good work!

Good to read this post. Thanks!
A couple victories... I am down 40lbs today. This morning was going out the door for work and my hubby said that shirt looks pretty big on you. So I pulled it tight around my waist and he said WOW you should be wearing shirts that show off your loss. LOL I am to cheap to go out and buy new clothes right away. Will wear these ones till they fall off me. Then plan on going to Value Village ( it's a next to new clothing store). When I reach my goal .... LOOK OUT! I will buy new fashionable clothes. One of my rewards. My health being first and foremost. :)

dainty, I love Miss Van! Thanks for the heads-up about her. Her eyes remind me of Mark Ryden's stuff (which I love).

These personal victories are so cool to read. I have another one to add. Two days ago when I was doing the dishes I realized my back didn't have the usual ache. I noticed it was because my belly is slowly getting smaller and I'm not as far back from the sink as I previously was, so I don't have to be at an awkward angle to reach the sink.

A friend commented the other day that I need to go buy some new clothes.  So today I braved it - bought 2 sweaters, 1 was a size medium, the other 2 size large.  Before I started this I was wearing a 3X.  Woo Hoo !

Michele! Awesome!

I guess my victory today is that I made it through the big birthday party and family shin-dig without having any unallowed foods. I even managed to avoid the yummy pancake breakfast this morning for the family who stayed over.

I know  no one has posted in a while in this thread, but today I noticed something that caught me off guard to be honest.....I was walking across the road at work to my car and noticed that my thighs were no longer rubbing.  I was shocked and excited.  Not sure how long it has been that they have not been rubbing but it made me proud of what I have accomplished so far.

Woo hoo ... way to go Geri!  That is one that still surprises me.  I never sat with my legs crossed - it just didn't work but I never knew why. A couple of my friends (who try to get me to be more 'lady-like') were always on me for the way I sat but I really had to make a conscious  effort.  Now, I don't even think about it and I sit with my legs crossed all the time as it is most comfortable.

I am only noticing things now after losing 76lbs (not all on Dr. B).  I can cross my legs comfortably, I have bones in places I forgot had bones and clothes feel different.

I am totally into my collar bones right now - they are my favourite place on my body.  But less padding hurts more and I'm cold!! :p

Also when people refer to me as "small", I still don't think they're talking about me!

Not just a diet victory but a life victory too !  I haven't been one to go out to bars etc. since I was a teenager.  I had my son at 19 so pretty much calmed down and became a home body after that.  Over the years, I'd gained so much weight that I had nothing typical of the bar scene to wear, was too self conscious etc. so in my circle of friends, I was pretty much the dud who prefered to just stay home.  When I moved to the GTA, I joined a baseball league so that I could meet people and up until this year have played on the same team with the same gang who get together and go out often outside of baseball.  I didn't often join in and this past summer I kind of fell off the face of the earth, didn't play ball because I didn't want the temptation of the beer that goes with it, etc.

Well, the whole gang was going out to a bar near my house last night and mentioned it to me in an email - not expecting me to actually show up.  I saw them all a couple of times in the summer when I went to see their games but was still wearing my old bagging clothes so the loss at that point wasn't obvious.  Last night, I got all dolled up in my new jeans, heels, hair & make up done, jewellry on etc.  (I can't remember the last time I did all that to go out) and showed up at the bar.  Everyone took a double take, a couple barely recognized me and we had an awesome time!  No one even said anything about the fact that all I was drinking was water with lemon !!!

Personal victory day!
I decided to go shopping for pants.
My dress pants are starting to fall off me. I have taken them in as well as I can do it....but that's it.

I bought myself dresspants and 2 pair of black jeans - all size 18! I said to myself that if they are too tight, I will be in them within the next few weeks - I didn't have the energy or bravery to try them on in the store.

Victory! 2 pair fit (one tightly!). The other ones will fit in about 10 pounds or so.  Hello "teen" sizes again - goodbye 22 and 24!!!

Way to go Geri !!!!!   I am 37 too  :D   and yes, it was fun to go out again!  Congrats on the pants ... that is such a great feeling.  I was in Zellers last night and they had racks & racks of clearance stuff and it's all 50% off the clearance price so there were jeans there for $7.50 - you can't even buy used stuff that cheap!

glenna74

Aw, you guys! Size 18 is awesome! I remember it. I'm not there yet (22 too loose; 20 too snug). I can't wait, though, since I have a lot of size 18 clothes in storage. That was during the era when I worked at a marketing agency and had really nice, yet fun, clothes. I couldn't bear to part with them on my weigh up (hee!), so I held on to them figuring my kids might think they were retro cool in about 15 years.

I broke down and bought 2 new pairs of jeans... first things purchased since I started on the diet. Size 16 and size 18. Different fit is all. And can't believe I am comfortable all day long in jeans. ODD, I used to wear them for going out and run into bedroom to yank them off as soon as I got home. WOW how my life has changed. And I have along way to go. Great to read all your victories! Thanks.  :O

i mean, my weight loss is nothing compared to the rest of the ppl here on the forum but my co-worker noticed!! and i felt awesome!!!
Also, my size 12 jeans arent tight as they were before... they are looser around my thighs and waist... just makes me wanna keep goin! i used to be a size 6... *sighs*...

I am celebrating getting out of the 180s this week (even if I am just barely out of the 180s! :-) I am also looking forward to wearing  one of my fave pairs jeans that I haven't been able to wear for over a year.  I can get into them now, but 5 more pounds and I'll be able to wear them and breathe all at the same time!! lol

Congrats to all who are celebrating today! :bounce:

My Personal Victory...
At my doctor's appt yesterday I was told I can go on maintenance any time after I reach 175!!!  Me???  Maintenance????  Never thought I'd see the day!!  Well I haven't actually seen the day but the fact that I am this close is quite a victory for me!

Sara

Thanks Dainty but I am not sure how quickly they will come off.  I am starting to sabotage myself!!  I know I am doing it but I can't seem to stop.  Today I have eaten 4 or 5 protein bars, I lost count.  Now I am so mad and feeling so guilty.  You know your mind is an amazingly powerful tool.  I need to get mine working the right way!!!

dainty

sara!!!! i did the exact same thing last week!!! i was so embarassed i didn't even post about it and i used my new job as an excuse and i skipped a few days at teh clinic.

what is it about getting close to goal that makes it so hard??? yikes.

after eating those bars last week i have been soooooo cravy and feeing yucky and i know it's easier to not cheat at all... i am literally obsessed with chocolates right now, i feel like i'm going crazy this bored is the ony thing keeping me sane.

you are soooo freaking close, you can buckle down for another few weeks?? at least we both know that one mistake won't kill us, okay?? just keep at it the best you can and i will do the same!

dainty
Posted: Jan. 13 2007, 21:48 ET

and since you just cheated today, i know the guilt is the worst part..... TRUST ME it's not as bad as you think. stop right now and be 100% on track, you won't regret it... my weight has already recovered from my cheating.... it's still WAY less than i was eating before, and i know they've seen WAY worse at the clinic.

so dont feel guilty, just stop NOW and be 100% on track this week... you can do it! you are so so so close.

Sara

Thanks Dainty!!  You made me feel better. I am starting to think about food I want to eat off the diet quite a bit lately. Today is a new day and I am determined to do better.  You are so right...just a few more weeks!!  Hang in there and we will encourage each other. My goal is actually 165 but the doctor said I could start maintenance at 175.  I really hope to make it to 165!!!

Well I am packing for my trip and nothing fits. Luckily, I bought some clothes in summer 2006 hoping that I might fit into them by summer 2007. Well we are in January and they fit. Some are even a little too big.

I guess I need to buy some new stuff for summer 2007!!!

Hey Ladies who are getting close (Dainty and Sara)- When i did the diet the first time, I found i had the SAME thing happen. The closer i got, the more i thought "oh it won't matter if i nibble on a little piece of pizza".

I finally realized that the cloesr i got, the less i saw myself as overweight, and started seeing myself as one of those skinny people who could slip up and still be thin.

Don't give in, you guys are both so close!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

As for small victories: I put on my size 29 jean skirt (which is about a size 7 or 8 i think) and it was still a little snug, but no longer clung to my thighs like it was painted on. My lululemon pants are no longer stretched to the extreme, and my bras are all too big! THANK GOODNESS!!!!
:D

Hey Shwy ... Lululemon pants are a great incentive for this diet!  I am proud to wear mine in yoga classes again :)  For a while there I wore only baggy sweatpants.  I'm still not comfortable wearing sleeveless, but I am hoping to get there by spring.

Michelle

All of my pants are getting baggy again (size 12's) so I went shopping this weekend.  Took size 8's and 10's into the dressing room with me ... somehow, I've pretty much skipped size 10 and bought all size 8's. I do not ever recall being in a single digit size.

Ok.. I have one.
So back in the day before Bernie, I would get upset every time I had to go out.  I wear a uniform at work so never had to worry about what to wear until I would go out socially.  I would take something out of my closet, try to button or zip it up and couldn't.  So I threw it onto my bed or the floor and pulled something else out.  Same thing.  Wicked frustrating!   There would even be times when I would cancel plans or just not go out because nothing fit.

I attempted to go out this past weekend and again went into my closet looking for something to wear.  I'm a "jeans and sweatshirt" kind of guy so that's usually what I end up in.  This time however, I wanted something different.  I could tell I had lost weight (although I still see the fat kid in the mirror). I had gone down two sizes in my uniform pants so I knew SOMEthing had to fit.  Well... it didn't.  Now everything was too big.  My pants now hang on me like Glad Bags... and MC Hammer I am not. lol   I went right through two sizes and didn't even get a chance to wear any of that clothes.  Some still have tags on them.
Now I'm tempted to go down to Eddie Bauer and stock up but I think I'll hold off.  I have about another size or two to go.  I'm sure I'll still see the fat kid in the mirror but at least he'll be in brand new clothes soon.  hahaha

Ba ha ha!

I have $50 worth of gift certificates for Pennington's (fat chick clothing store) that I'm not sure what to do with. Anything that fits now, hopefully won't -- and shouldn't -- fit in another month or so. I guess I'll hang onto them until summer when I should be nearing goal weight and get a bathing suit.

This is a great thread!
Well, 2 Sundays ago I had to go to a bridal shower, so I pulled out these nice dress pants that I had in the closet.  I got them on ... but they WERE TIGHT and I wasn't very comfortable.  This past Sunday, I was invited to a christening lunch and I pulled out the same pants ... and guess what?  They weren't tight and I was VERY comfortable!

baby steps ....

Wooo hooo Paula .... that is awesome & you know what, I never realized it - couldn't figure out what you meant until I just tried too.  That is pretty cool.

Gitmo ... I am having similar situations right now where I stocked up on smaller clothing when it was on sale, problem is I've completely missed wearing some of it and it still has tags on it. Good thing is I didn't pay much for any of it and I've been giving my stuff to the local women's shelter so I am sure some of those ladies will enjoy getting new clothes too.   You are in Toronto so I just wanted to suggest  - the best place I've found for 'transition' clothing is the Sears Clearance Centre.  You have to go & try stuff on cause it's not returnable but ... it's already marked down plus they often have even better mark downs if you use a Sears card.  I've been there when they had - buy 1 pair, get 20% off, buy 2 get 40% off, by 3 or more, get 60% off - and that is off all of the pants you buy so it's great when you know you'll only wear them a couple of times - if that!

Glenna - you may want to use that gift certificate soon!  By next summer you will be smaller than I am and there is currently nothing in Penningtons I can buy anymore.  :D

That's a situation I would be happy to be in, Michelle. Well, if they were strictly gift certificates I would feel I must use them, but they're actually the kind where you spend $50 and then get $25 off. I'll see how I'm doing clothes-wise in the spring and reassess.

Seriously, though, how awesome to have no need to go there again.

Michelle-- the swimming pool i work at also requires that i wear black pants or shorts while i'm guarding...and we're pretty specific with what they have to look like.

Lululemon are pretty much exactly what they want us to wear.

That being said, I love them- i wear them ALL the time anyway. They are somewhat forgiving, and give a little extra stretch on those uncomfortable bloated/fat days.
:)

They also fit big; when i was a size 16, the size 12's fit me just fine.

Angela
Posted: Jan. 23 2007, 14:40 ET

I bought a size 8 pant this weekend as well as a new bathing suit that I think I actually look pretty good in.  The bathing suit is a tankini with boy shorts (too many stretch marks for anything less).  I am finding this weight loss thing a bit addictive, my goal was 140 or a size 8 but now I am thinking a size 6 sounds pretty good.  I was going to go on maintenance at 140 and hopefully lose a few more pounds but I think as long as I am consistently losing on strict I will stay on but as soon as it becomes a struggle ie. only .4 or .6 each weigh in then I will go right to maintenance.

Congratulations to everyone on their personal victories.

Michelle

Wooo hooo Angela !!!  I hear ya on the stretch marks - no way will anyone ever see this body in a bikini regardless of how skinny I get.  My goal before was a size 12 so the whole size 8 thing is shocking to me - the first couple of pairs I tried on, I thought "these must just run big" but I don't think that's the case as all different kinds were that way.

Yes, I love my Lululemons too!  Their yoga and athletic gear is great.  I couldn't wear my yoga pants for a while there.  They were just too fitted and unflattering.  Now, they're just right.  When you do fw and back bends in yoga, you need the tops of the pants to stay put.  As to not show too much skin, I think they're made with that in mind.  When I reach my goal, I decided that I'll be treating myself to a whole new Lululemon wardrobe :D ; well, at least to five new outfits!  I guess this also falls under the 'Motivation' topic.

On the other hand, I went to a yoga class once and one guy was wearing a speedo, so I guess he just couldn't care less about that kinda thing; and it wasn't a Bikram or hot yoga class at that!

I sure hope you both walk with your head held high and a huge smile on your face to match your sexy new butts in those size 8 pants!

I have NO butt - literally!  I never could understand why people would get butt implants (apparently a big thing in parts of the world) but I think I may understand now.  Next to "You look great!" the most comment I hear from friends is "but you have no ass."  I guess I must be a little top heavy which is why I figure I can wear a size 8 even though I'm still 20+ lbs. heavier than Angela.  All I can say is, if those shots really work best where you get them, it's a damn good thing I moved away from the butt after the first week!

Lululemon pants are a great incentive for this diet!

K - I'm either totally dense or have just been fat for so long that I'm out of it and have no idea what you are talking about.   :bangin:   What are Lululemon pants?

Hey Michelle,
LuluLemon's are the BIG brand name in Yoga and Athletic Wear, Apparently it is a proven fact that they will make ANYONES butt look good! lol, I dont know about that!

Thanks Mexico Bound for the link...
I had no idea either what lululemon pants were either.
No store locations near me....but I am sure I could get some on one of my business trips towards Toronto.

Thanks again!

Tried on an old pair of Calvin's size 10 tonight.  They fit  :bounce:  :bounce: .  Tight yes (only could wear them if I never had to sit down) but they fit.  But no laying on the bed to do the zipper done up.  So I guess even though the scale is messing with my head the inches are still coming off.

However, I do have a new goal .  Get me a pair of those Lululemon pants and have my butt look as good a Zerocool's pin up.

I should post my befores and afters in lululemon! (If i can't find a before that is...)

I also discovered that melted Allégro cheese on mushrooms and flatbread makes me feel like I am eating some decadent.

Way to go!!!
That's so motivating, isn't it?

(Oh, and that sounds delicious! I'll have to try it!)

I posted this in the weigh-in thread, but it more properly belongs here. I have now shed *50* lbs, which is the equivalent of my eldest child. I also am finally lighter than my husband. I haven't weighed less than him in 5-6 years.

It's weird to think of weight loss in terms of small children.  Even 8lbs, which tends to easily come off at first, is the same as a newborn.

CarolP
Posted: Jan. 26 2007, 16:02 ET

WOW Glenna, I have never been thinner than my husband. But I do talk about it now, 20more lbs and I will be.
Here's my victory for the day... I am now at two portions a day instead of the three. WooHoo!
It's been a tough couple of weeks for me. My loss has been 6lbs. and I know that it's still good. But I was going down so quickly. I am OK with it. Just sharing feelings here.
For fun lately, I have been trying on new clothes. Not buying any just trying on new sizes. Spent an hour or so today. Things are so much cheaper when there not plus size. XL shirts fit me and size 16 or 18 jeans. I was in size 4X or some 5X shirts and size 28 jeans. Just amazing what 2.5 mths has done.

glenna74
Posted: Jan. 26 2007, 17:26 ET

Oh man, Carol, you can fit in a size 16 or 18?! Colour me envious!
The countdown has begun for me getting 2 portions... 11 more pounds.

Way to go Glenna! I too now way less than husband probably for the first time in 15 years.

My victory, I hope, is that I'm going swim suit shopping tomorrow and hoping to find a 2 piece one that's flattering. My husband and I are renewing our vows in Cuba in a couple of weeks (the beach wedding we never had) so I want to look good. Although I think I'm actually lighter now than I was 20 years ago when we got married.

Michelle

I need to find me a hubby (well a bf anyway) but I think I'll take the easy way out and just pick one that already weighs more than me!  :D

You made me laugh, Michelle!  In terms of dating / marrying men who weigh less, the problem with that for me is, I generally date tall, skinny guys, so it's hard to have skinnier thighs than them!    ???

OMG, my husband has the greatest legs. I would be so happy to have them...minus the hair, of course. He doesn't have an ounce of fat on his legs or bum. Any extra weight he carries on his belly. We joke that he looks a bit like Michigan J Frog. Hello, my honey....

DDL, you should be able to find a bathing suit. There are so many mix and match bikini sets that I'm sure you're bound to find a top and bottom that are flattering on you. And that's so cool you're renewing your vows on a beach in Cuba! We had a giant (300+ people) church wedding and next I want to go kitsch and tacky and renew vows by an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas.

Well, I survived a Fondue/Wine Tasting Party!  While everyone was digging into the most decadent cheese fondue EVER!  lol  I kept busy preparing for the next course which I could partake in.  The "broth fondue".  The vegs/prawns tasted amazing! I was also surrounded by an "oil fondue" which people were indulging in tempura dipped vegs.  I kept my wits by sipping Perrier in my wine glass.  For the final "chocolate fondue" I used WW Choc./caramel dip and  indulged in a guilt free treat!
Woo Hoo!  I lived to tell the tale.  Even today walking through Granville Island Market I just had a passing glimpse at the Terra Breads stall and felt proud that I could resist the temptation to indulge!
Baby steps alllllll the way!

I had a good one today so I'll just have to take this post back to what it was origniated for ..... Personal Victories!

Since starting Dr. B, I have never paid much attention to my measurements done by them as they've been really inconsistent due to different people doing them, etc.  I do however work out regularily at Curves and get weighed & measured once a month, usually by the same person so those are the measurements I track.  They have a board which congratulates people on how many feet they've lost and when I started this journey, the highest person on the board was at 7 feet/84 inches.  So for a long time, I was striving to join her on the 7 foot marker and did so at the end of November.

Today was my monthly weigh and measure day - they had to put up a new foot marker just for me - 8 FEET !!!  97.5 inches of me are gone!

I've posted the measurements that add up to that in my signature.  I don't think I'll ever make it to 9 feet as I don't have that much left to lose however my goal for next month is to be the first to break 100 inches lost.

I was so inspired by Michelle I nearly forgot to post my own mini victories.
I've gone to the gym 3 out of 4 days this week, and this morning, despite being starving and craving salt, I managed to drive right by McDonalds. It took a bit of work on my part, considering that I could practically see the Egg McMuffin was laughing at me and telling me to come and enjoy one, but I stayed strong! Whew.

I walked into the Bon Ton Meat Market in Calgary.  THey have the BEST beef ribs in town. I LOVE them. I staaaaared at them, thinking what could just ONE hurt. When they asked if I needed some help, I said no, I was just thinking about cheating on my diet and then left empty handed and walked next door and bought a bottle of water.

prairieshome
Posted: Feb. 6 2007, 12:17 ET

Good for you Shwy and barngirl!!!

This thread, in part, really helped me yesterday. I took my kids out to Burger King for a treat. I did not order anything, and I did not have a single bite of their food, not even a bite of a french fry. The old me would have ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and then eaten all of their unfinished fries, onion rings, last bites of burger etc.

Instead, I took out my un-sweetened apple sauce I had put in my purse, and had that.

At the risk of sounding corny, it made me feel very empowered. Hope I remember this little personal victory in the future when faced with temptation.

Michelle
Posted: Feb. 6 2007, 12:25 ET

That is awesome Jamie !!!  I have found that as long as I always at least have a bottle of water with me, I am much less tempted.  One of the other things I find that is very helpful when I'm out for a day shopping or whatever is I keep a baggy of grape tomatoes with me.  They are fairly sweet & also easy to just pick/snack at wherever you are.  Veggies are my least favorite of our food groups so this also helps me to get them in.

Mysticial
Posted: Feb. 6 2007, 12:33 ET

Prairieshome,
I am a nanny and take my kids to a fast food place for lunch once a week for the play center and have only been on the diet for 2 weeks. When I go there i usually take some protein and salad dressing with me and order a side salad.

Doesn't it feel great to overcome our old habits!!
I feel empowered every time i do this as well.

My personal victory,

I just came back from a week in the Dominican Republic.  Actually wore a 2 piece bathing suit for the first time in 36 years!  Before I left, I purchased a new sweater to take with me in case the nights got cool.  Found a real pretty one in Walmart - you guessed it, size small!  Not too bad for a former 2XX, eh?
Now if I could just control the urge to buy more clothes....  :bangin:

Shwy
Posted: Feb. 8 2007, 01:51 ET

i bought two new pairs of jeans....size 28 and size 29's.

They were both quite expensive...Habituals and Seven for all Mankind. But they look awesome.

Also, my measurements today, I was down 5 inches in my waist and 2.5 inches in my hips.

glenna74
Posted: Feb. 9 2007, 12:22 ET

I went shopping yesterday to get some clothes that fit a bit better. I am thrilled to report that I left with pants, 2 shirts and a hoodie, all size 1X. Yay! Last time I went shopping the shirts were 4X and the pants were 24/26 or 3X.

So Michelle, I guess you were right.... if I'm going to use the gift certificates for Penningtons, I had better do it sooner than later. (I used one yesterday.)

Vicky123, I hit that very same milestone about a week or so ago. Isn't it an awesome feeling?

Michelle
Posted: Feb. 12 2007, 22:27 ET

A big one for me ....

A year ago, I weighed over 300 lbs. and often used to park in the 'pregnant/small children' parking spots so I didn't have to walk so far when going somewhere.

This past week, I registered for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer - in other words, I am volunteering to walk 60 km's in two days to raise money for breast cancer research and am really excited about doing it!  I am worried about raising the minimum $2000 in donations but am so looking forward to spending my summer training for this walk - that will definately help to keep the weight off!

Please check out my web page and cheer me on as my little thermometer fills up !

I have a victory to share also.  I was so upset 15 years ago when I had to take off my wedding ring and engagement ring due to weight gain associated with my first pregnancy. Well, today on Valentines Day--I am comfortably wearing my rings--Yippee.

Michelle- Can Americans be  sponsors for your walk?

Wooo hooo Shawn - that is awesome news !!!  I bet that feels great to be able to wear them again after 15 years.  Congratulations !!!

Yes - anyone can sponsor for the walk ... it will just go through in Cdn. dollars which is a good thing for americans as Canadian $'s are worth less.  Thanks for asking!

glenna74

Shawn, cool about your rings! I had mine resized a few years ago because I was too horrified at being sufficiently overweight that they didn't fit me. Yesterday I noticed they're a bit looser and when I've got particularly cold hands, they move and clink together.

Michelle
Posted: Feb. 15 2007, 10:01 ET

Glenna - be careful!  I almost lost one of my rings when it started getting cool in the fall.  I was out somewhere and slammed my car door - ring went flying.  I looked pretty stupid searching under cars in the parking lot but I did eventually find it.  I then went home and put all my rings in my jewellry box for safe keeping - I suppose I should get them out and have them resized now.  It would be nice for my hands not to be naked anymore!

Sue
Posted: Feb. 15 2007, 11:26 ET

Michelle,

I have had the same experience with my ring.  I have almost lost it several times.  I now wear it on a different finger, but it feels weird.  I put off doing anything about it until I was on maintenance.   I am finally ready to have it re-sized but I have no idea where to get it done.  Any suggestions?

Shawn
Posted: Feb. 15 2007, 12:06 ET

Our Walmart stores sell a little pad that fits on the inside back of the ring that is supposed to work at snugging it up a bit.  I have never had the opportunity to try it.  Perhaps in a few months I will need to temporarily until my fingers get to a consistent size.

Shawn

glenna74
Posted: Feb. 15 2007, 13:43 ET

They're not *that* loose. Just loose enough to move when my fingers are like little popsicle sticks when I'm cold. They don't make it over my knuckle easily. But when they do, I'll be checking out the device from Wal-Mart.

I had a really funny thing happen today so thought I'd share ...
I live in a townhouse complex so it's pretty tight quarters and yes, everyone knows you business - being out in the back yard is just like being in a fish bowl.  The neighbor that lives behind me, ran into my next door neighbor at the grocery store today.  The talked a bit and then the lady that lives behind wound up asking my next door neighbor where I moved to. LOL ... apparently she saw me getting in or out of the hottub sometime in the last few weeks and thought I was the new neighbor!

I went to my family doctor last week (first time since starting the diet) and the nurse told me she saw me in the waiting room and knew I was coming in but did not know that the person waiting was me :D   I haven't had many people say anything to me about my loss so I really, really got a kick out of the experience.

That is awesome Shawn!  My GP has been extremely supportive and cheering me on throughout the diet and it has been a great help!  It sounds like yours is supportive too so they must be very proud of you there as well!

I didn't get a good chuckle out of the neighbor thing ... I really am having some fun with this new person thing!  I'm going to have some fun in the Tampa airport on Wednesday too - the friend that is picking me up hasn't seen me in 7 years ... so she never so me at my heaviest either but she's certainly never seen me like this.

People keep asking me when the last time I was a size 8 was - all I can say is that I honestly don't remember ever being a size 8, I think I skipped it.  Of course people laugh and say I must have been at some time but I talked to my mom last night and she confirmed for me that I have never been a size 8.  She owned a childrens clothing store when I was growing up and carried up to a kid's size 14/16 so my clothes always came from there.  Once I outgrew those, she said the next size would have been a ladies 10 or 12 so I really never was an 8.  :D   My mom sold her store when I was in grade 10 and I had already outgrown the clothes so ... my best guesstimate is that I haven't been this size since at least grade 8.  I would have been 12 or 13 so 25 years ago.

I just had to share this!! I stopped at a supplement shop today looking for more of the Whey Gourmet protein powder. It was one of those places full of body builder type guys. When I went up to pay I commented to the guy about being on the Bernstein diet. There was another guy in line beside me and he said "YOU'RE on a diet?" like he actually thought I didn't need to be. It was so nice to hear, I think I smiled all the way home!

So I have been a little stressed out because I haven't gone down a size yet. I have been wondering when it would happen. At my starting weight, I wear size 18 pants normally. I have this pair of size 16s that I have faithfully tried on, attempting to wedge myself into them every Saturday since I've started the diet as a barometer of when the weight is coming off. I've lost over 30 lbs now. Now in my 7th week. Tried them on yesterday. They fit! It happened suddenly cuz, the week before, they would not go over my hips. woo hoo! Must now find a pair of 14s to continue the squeezie fits on Saturdays...

Here's my personal victory.....last October I bought myself a sexy white bikini to motivate myself to loose weight. I lost about 20-25lbs before starting Dr.B's program and loosing the rest.  So, next week I'm going to Cancun and I'm pulling out all my summer stuff, and I tried on my bikini and it's too big, I mean way too big, I can't wear it (which in one way sucks, as it's a nice bathing suit) but WOW, I can't believe it's so large on me.   Now I need to go shopping for a new swimsuit!

Hi All

I love reading everyone's victories.

So here are my little victories.

I have reached the 50% mark .

Also I have a pair of jeans that I Really, Really  had to struggle to get on. I could not wear them in January and felt horrible about it. I remember saying to myself, I just cant wait until I fit into these. Well today I pulled them out and not only did they fit they are loose.....

OMG What a feeling .......

Way to go Deb !!!  That is awesome and Congrats on hitting the 50% mark !!!  It feels so much more attainable from here huh?  You've made it this far ... no need to doubt yourself on the rest!

Today's personal victory is a huge deal for me. I got home from the clinic about an hour ago, updated my ticker and posted my weigh-in. I read Jane's post about getting into a size 16 from a 22. I noticed her current weight and mine are not that far apart so I thought maybe I should try some pants on, too, since the legs on all the ones I've been wearing are way too big.

Way back in the day, I got hooked on a certain style of pant and bought lots of them when they were on sale. When a pair got nasty looking, I had new ones at the ready. Then I gained so much that I couldn't wear them anymore. My husband packed them away for "later", against my wishes to donate them.

So, flash forward to 20 minutes ago. I pulled some out of storage. I tried on a size 18. It fit! They were grey. I remember the grey pairs fitting tighter than the black pairs. So I tried on a black pair, in size 16. It fit! The legs still seemed a bit loose, so I tried on a 14. The legs fit perfectly, but I wouldn't say they *fit*. I can do them up and be reasonably comfortable, but the 16s sit better. Still undaunted, I tried on a size 15 (Cotton Ginny is the only place I know of with that size). It fit! Comfy on my waist like a 16, but fitted on my legs like a 14!

When I started Dr. B at the end of November I was wearing 22, but could very well have really been a 24. I wasn't willing to try on that size to learn that it did, in fact, fit better. And now, a mere 3.5 months later I am quite comfortable in a 15.

I can't even express how happy I am. This opens up the world of choices for bathing suits. Just yesterday I was on the Land's End website coveting a specific bathing suit, and wondering if, come May, I might be able to fit into one. It only comes to size 18. Well, guess what? I think I'll be getting that bathing suit after all. Yay! But I will wait to get it because I have no idea what size I'll be then.

I'm sure I mentioned elsewhere, a while back (probably around the time I started this thread) that I didn't think I had gone down a size. I was just shrinking my clothes in the dryer. Now I know that the only real way to tell is to try stuff on. I need to take up the practice of "Squeezie Saturdays" or whatever it was called. Hee!

Oh! The best part? All these pants still have the tags on them, so they're brand new.

Way to go Glenna - that is awesome !!!  I used to have clean out my closet day about once a month and just try stuff on.  To big, it went in a bag to donate, too small went in the back of the closet until the next try on day.  It was always a lot of fun - never have I loved 'cleaning out' something so much !!!!

Keep in mind, as you get closer to goal, you will change sizes a lot quicker too.  A 10 lb loss may not have made much of a difference when you started but soon that 10 lb loss will mean another size drop.  I got caught in this ... tried to guestimate sizes ahead of time based on what I was losing but unfortunately I completely missed wearing a whole pile of clothes that still have tags on them.  I think you will definately be able to have that covetted bathing suit but it would be very wise to wait before ordering.

By the way ... I believe Reitman's carries a size 15 too.

Just wanted to say congrats to all your personal victories. Glenna, that's awesome, can't wait to have that feeling. No victories for me yet...oh no that's not true, I'm able to get back online and into this forum...need my forum fix (LOL) I know my first real victory WILL be when I get down to 220 lbs because that's what I was before I had my accident. Hope it's soon.

Momachita, that's not too far off.

Thanks for the tip, Michelle. I haven't been in a Reitman's since I outgrew thier plus sized section. (Man, that is so sad to write. And live.) I hadn't even considered how, say, 10 lbs will mean more on a smaller body than on a larger one.

And yeah, already I'm wondering if my super cute sassy summer dresses (size 18) will still look okay, like maybe just really *comfortable*, or if they're going to just be too big. Fingers are crossed that my favourite will still look okay. It's not meant to be super fitted.

And speaking of summer, I am SO looking forward to being able to go outside and not instantly break a sweat.

I have a personal victory.  I'm down a total of 20.4 lbs since I started 3 weeks, and 1 day ago.   I've always stalled out or had second thoughts about loosing so I always stopped around the 10lb mark.  So, needless to say I'm ecstatic!!!  plus I've lost 3" in my hips, waist has stayed the same but that's because they've changed where the measure, used to be the smallest part, but now on the largest part.  So Yay me...  and Yay!  to everyone else on your amazing success and victories.

wow Pamela that is amazing !!! I also started at the Brentwood Clinic same date as you and have lost 17.8 lbs.. What is your secret? Do you follow 100% strict?

That's awesome, Pamela! It hasn't even been a month for you yet.... there should be no second thoughts this time around. Dani, it's possible to be 100% strict but still manage to hold on to a lot of water weight because of sodium, if you happen to be really sensitive to it. Some say the timing of eating bread and fruit makes a difference, too. Some say it doesn't.

I really love reading all the personal victories.  That was a huge mark for me Deb when I had to buy new jeans!!  I had gotten rid of most of my clothes that were too small for me in a fit of rage/depression with myself except for one box of summer clothes in the attic.  The great thing was when I found the box, the jeans were already a little too loose!!  Glenna, I would definitely wait on the bathing suit or you'll end up like Judy ... with a new suit that's too big!!  Isn't that a great problem to have!!  I think I need to do what Michelle did & have Closet Clean Out days.  I've bought two new pair of scrub pants b/c my old pants were falling off.  They had elastic waists b/c I was too big for the drawstrings.  I haven't gotten new scrub tops yet so I'm swimming in them right now.  We can wear plain t-shirts so that has saved me & my wallet.  My biggest victory to date is that last night my husband & I went out to dinner & to the ballet (the did a cool James Bond piece) & I bought a size 12 wrap dress that made his jaw drop!!  I still needed a 'foundation' garment for the midsection but even that was smaller!!

Wrap dresses are so great. I have a couple of them. One will be too big now, which is kind of a shame because I only wore it once and it's gorgeous. The other one would probably fit now. And yes, I will wait until May to look for a bathing suit.

Trying on clothes has never been so much fun. I have 2 big bags of stuff now for donation or ebay.

Last night I hauled up 7 giant Rubbermaid boxes of my old clothes from the basement and tried them all on. These were bins of stuff that I've been trying to get rid of for so long because it was too depressing to hang on to them when there was no hope of me ever wearing any of them ever again. But every time I'd get ready to donate it all to the Value Village, my husband would scoop it all back up and store it. Well, thank you, Dear Husband.

Out of those 7 bins, fully 2 were of clothes that are too big for me now! They *will* be going to Value Village. There is one conveniently located in the same plaza as my clinic. (By design?) The other 5 had all my favourite sassy summer dresses mentioned a few posts ago. And they all fit! Differently than the first time around, but they still fit! The question is, will they still come summer? I found a bathing suit that I wore on our honeymoon, and it fit. And the beautiful dress that I changed into at our reception when the wedding gown got to be a bit much. It fit beautifully. So many of my favourite pants, and a favourite cardigan, and t-shirts I hadn't seen in 6 years.

I need to overhaul the closet now, because there are a lot of dresses that need to be hung. And I think a new dresser is in order, too, to accommodate my new (old) stuff.

That's my personal victory today. I cannot express the feeling I got wearing the dress from our reception and the bathing suit from our honeymoon. And the interesting thing is, I'm 20 lbs heavier now than when we were married. I have definitely changed shape.

Congratulations Glenna - that is awesome !!!!   Shopping for free out your own stuff is even better than shopping in the stores !!!!   Just wait, before you know it, that stuff will all be too big too - you better hurry and wear it all!

Wow Glenna, it must be very amazing feeling, very exciting. Congrats!!  :)

Yep, it feels awesome, Niki! I even found some very pretty bras that fit again. (Clearly I am a pack-rat.) Michelle, as luck would have it, the pants are really light-weight, spring/summer pants.... perfect for weigh-ins! Technically they're a size too big but they don't look sloppy like some of the other stuff did. They probably will in another month, but until then, new clothes for me! And yes, shopping for free beats the stores any day.

That's awesome Genna.  I cleaned out my closet this weekend but haven't pulled out any old clothes.  I don't have many because I donated most of them.  Right now my closet is pretty empty.  I don't want to buy anything but the bare minimum until I get to my goal size!

OK, so I wear a lab coat at work, so I've been trying to stay in my 2X as long as possible. I finally gave in and had them order me an X-large and a large. Well the X-large was on back order so I didn't realize that they just sent me two larges. Well it fits, and it's a little lose. I'm going to have them cancel that other order. I just can't believe it.

That sounds awesome Bernice! You must feel great about it. Who needs an XL anyway! :D

glenna74

Indeed! That's awesome, Bernice! I went shopping today (in stores, not my closet) and found that I take a L in Old Navy's pajama bottoms. I went into the change room with an XL, but it was too big. And I bought the most flattering pair of jeans there. And I can fit into the cute stuff at H&M again. Yay!

Oh, and since I've moved into my old stuff from the bins, I've found that at least 1 pair of the pants is now a bit too big and is starting to look sloppy. Oh well. That's a problem I welcome.

A shopping one for me too. I was in a hurry and had found a couple pull overs but wanted a shirt to go under them. I went to the rack, picked up a large... looked at it and thought yeah that will fit. I bought it with out trying it on. Got it home and it fits great. First time I have ever bought some thing with out trying it on.
