I originally posted this data as part of another topic. I decided to repost it here, in "Resources", to make it easy to find.
In the interest of science ( ) I decided to compare the approved fruits and rank them by carb content. Unsurprisingly, the fruits with the lowest carbs also have the lowest calories (see attached spreadsheet for full details).
Notes:
1. If the size of the fruit was not specified in the food list, "medium" was used. 2. If a range was given for the quantity in the food list, the highest number in the range was used.
Results by Net Carbs (lowest first):
Fruit name, net carbs, calories 1/2 cup rhubarb, 1.67, 12.81 1 lemon, 3.79, 16.82 1 lime, 5.18, 20.10 8 medium strawberries, 5.44, 30.72 1 medium peach, 7.88, 38.22 1 medium asian pear fruit, 8.60, 51.24 1/2 grapefruit, 8.93, 40.96 1/4 cantaloupe, 10.02, 46.92 1 medium orange, 12.25, 61.57 4 small apricots, 12.76, 67.20 1 medium apple, 15.75, 71.76
[Edited 11/11/2007 to add: I just realized that the asian pear fruit, and lemons and limes were left out. I'm sure there was a reason at the time, but they're in there now. The asian pear fruit are a favorite of mine. Kinda expensive, but a nice treat.]
