Just wanted to share what I found out. We can have yogurt as a garnish. It is in our Florida allowable food lists but I missed it.
Here it is as listed in our Fl. book-graciously put together by Brian.
Dannon Light’n Fit Carb Control Strawberries’n Cream – (1 serving per day)

How much is a serving? Do they come in individual cups? I might go to the States this weekend, so I will look for it.

I'm heading to Detroit this weekend too so yeah .... I'd certainly like to know.

Yes, they come in individual cups-4 per pack. Each serving is 4 oz or 113g. I have seen them at Publix, Super Walmart and Ingalls grocery stores.

OK Shawn. I'm male, so I know I have a disadvantage when it comes to looking for things because of that (especially car keys), but I have looked at all 3 versions of the Florida food booklet and I cannot find this product there anywhere. Which page do you see it on and what revision date is your booklet?

gerih Posted: Jan. 4 2007, 18:48 ET
The US list, as posted on the drb website has it(at the bottom, under Virginia):
GARNISHES - Atkins Quick Quisine Ketch - A Tomato - (1 tbsp per day) - Butter Burst Smart Balance Spray - Cajun Sunshine Hot Pepper Sauce - Carb Options Barbeque Sauce - Original, Hickory - (1 tbsp per day) - Carb Options Italian Garlic Marinade - (2 tbsp per day) - Carb Options Steak Sauce - (1 tbsp per day) - Carb Options Asian Teriyaki Marinade - (1 tbsp per day) - Coffeemate Lite Non- Dairy Creamer - (1 tsp per day) - Cremora Non-Dairy Creamer - (2 tsp per day) - Dannon Light’n Fit Carb Control Strawberries’n Cream – (1 serving per day)
etc...

Aaaah. OK Geri, that explains it. It *is* on the U.S. food list, but it is in the "Virginia Brands" section, so it is not in the Florida booklet. Shawn must have been looking at the U.S. food list and not the booklet.
Cool!
It is amazing the number of little things that are hidden in the various regional brands, that are actually available everywhere. Have to add that one to the mental list...

I have to take a Shiritaki noodle pkg. into my clinic tomorrow. I can't wait to see what they say when I show up on Monday with yogurt on my diet sheet as a garnish !
Bernice - I'm going to try Meijer on Eureka but I am not sure if I am going Sat. or Sun. If you are there first & find or don't find it, please post where you've looked and I'll do the same. Thanks

My oops Brian,
It is listed on the main list not our Florida one. Sorry about that. I must still be adjusting to the lack of sugar and caffeine-LOL.

I found this in the store but didn't see the type that Bernice posted above.
The "smoothie" is not the approved product, the yogurt cups are, but the "numbers" are nearly the same:
Serving size: 1 bottle Calories: 60 Calories from fat: 25 Total fat: 2.5g Saturated fat: 1.5g Cholesterol: 15mg Sodium: 35mg Potassium: 110mg Total Carbohydrate: 4g Sugars: 3g Protein: 6g

Shawn, have you found this stuff yet? If so, which kind did you find, the yogurt kind like Bernice posted, or the smoothie kinds like I found at Publix? Also, if you found the yogurt kind, where did you find it?
|
|
Michelle Posted: Jan. 4 2007, 22:53 ET
Funny thing is .... never heard of this stuff but I'm watching Dallas Swat on A&E right now and have seen a commercial for both products 3 times now!

Brian,
I have found the yogurt not the smoothies. I found it at Publix, Super Walmart and I think Albertsons. They even had it in the mountains of North Carolina at the Ingalls grocery store.

NorrisD Posted: Jan. 6 2007, 08:29 ET
O.K. I'm new so I hope my question isn't to silly. If you count the yogurt as a garnish then how much can you have and what food group do you put it under?
|
|
BrianB Posted: Jan. 6 2007, 10:32 ET
Not a dumb question at all. "Garnish" falls in the "Miscellaneous" food category which is it's own food category and you can have two from the Miscellaneous category each day (or 3 if you're on 3 portions). The serving is one of the plastic cups. If you have a whole cup, then you've used one of your garnishes for the day. 1/2 cup = 1/2 a garnish, etc.
I did find these in the yogurt cup format at Super Walmart. They had the Strawberry 'n Cream, Vanilla Cream, Peaches 'n Cream, and Blueberries 'n Cream. Only the Strawberries 'n Cream is on the food list, but they all have identical nutritional data. I had a Strawberries 'n Cream this morning. Pretty good. Honestly it could use a little more Splenda as it is not sweet enough for my taste.

Ok, so here's another dumb kinda question. On the food lists posted on the website, are these foods allowed for those of us on the strict diet, or for those on maintenance? Also, ditto for the recipes....are they ok for strict or maintenance? Thanks for helping.

I found this yogurt at Kroger in Royal Oak. It was on sale 2 packages for $4.00. I was lucky, they only had two packages left. There was a Strawberry and Cereal flavour also, it was right next to the allowable one, so make sure you read the package.
I also saw the smoothie, but didn't buy it. I can't wait to pack it in my lunch.

The food lists on the DrBDiet.com website are for the strict diet and so are the recipes in the recipe book. In the recipe book, some of the recipes have notes of things to add if you're on maintenance, so just ignore those notes for now.

Am I over eating? Is it 2 or 3 miscellaneous items, or 2 or three from each category (meaning 2 mints, 2 supplements, 2 garnishes, 2 seasonings and 2 sweetners)?

Bernice - I went to Meijer today and they had the yogurt, 3 different flavours but all with the same nutritionals so I bought one of each to try. I also bought some smoothies - expiry date was long enough that I won't run out before I am down here next. Unfortunately, I didn't get them as cheap as you but not bad - yogurt was $2.29 and the smoothies were $3.69

Ohhhh ... this yogurt is so good! Thank you Shawn for bringing this to our attention! It seems to be just the thing that has hit the spot as I was getting very bored with what I was eating. For anyone near or who travels to the US, I would highly recommend picking some up !!!
Since we do have Danone products in Canada, I am actually going to write to this company and suggest they start selling this one in Canada.

Here is their website - and there is a place where you can contact them by email. Maybe if they get bombarded by Canadians, they'll bring it here ...

I just noticed that there are two seperate companies: DANNON in the U.S. and DANONE in Canada. I think it is the same company because they both make Activia and La Creme.

Thanks for the info Michelle.
By the way this is the reply I got from Danone in Canada:
Dear Bernice,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
Unfortunately Light and Fit is not available in Canada, Danone Canada does not offer the same products that Danone Europe or Dannon U.S. offers. I will forward your question as suggestion to our marketing department.
You can be assured of Danone's consideration for all comments from its customers.
Thank you for having communicated with Danone and please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions or comments. It remains, as always, our pleasure to serve you.
Have a great day!

I asked the nurse at my clinic about Dannone Yogurt and it is not on our list anywhere, therefore we cannot have it. I for one do not want to jepordize my weight loss so I am going to not have it.
|
|
Michelle Posted: Jan. 31 2007, 15:16 ET
Hi Irene,
No there is not any yogurt on the Canadian list but for those who live near the border & can get it, there is Dannon Lite & Fit Carb & Sugar control yogurt on the US list (in the Virginia section). This product is not available in Canada which is why it's not on the Canadian list but for those able to get the approved one, it doesn't jeapordize their weight loss. The approved product is what this post is referring to.

I eat one of these every day. Hasn't affected my loss. They are yummy too...

Just wondering if we are allowed yogurt on our list here in Canada? They used to allow cottage cheese - which was a treat and then it disappeared off the latest list.
|
|
Michelle Posted: Jan. 31 2007, 18:12 ET
No, unfortunately there is no allowed yogurt or cottage cheese on the Canadian list. Unfortunately Dr.B is limited by what is available in Canada and because our population base is much smaller than the US, there are many products produced and sold in the US that are not sold in Canada.

Cottage cheese is probably going away off all the lists as it doesn't have enough protein. That said, it doesn't have to be on the Canada list to be legal. If you find it on the U.S. list, you can have it.

I bought the smoothies & found them very dangerous. I drank one and REALLY wanted another one right away!! I think I'm going to have to stay away from them for my own safety!!
