Hello All! I have looked around the different topics of discussion and I didn't see this question asked or answer. If I have missed it somewhere else, please direct me if you would. My Fiance has heard that Alberta Health Care will pay for the Dr. Bernstien diet. Has anyone else heard of this happening? I wanted to check here first before I called the clinic or AHC to see if I could get direction from someone else that has claimed. Please let me know the process and your experience with this.
Thanks
Robin :help1:

Robin,
Interesting question. I'd love to know for sure too. But wouldn't you think that the Dr. B office would have told us at our first session. I was only aware that some extended benefit plans will pay for injections. I believe they do direct bill the Dr. visits though - but that's it.
Please post if you find out anything.
Karoline

I haven't heard of that at all...though I am one of the lucky few who gets covered through my work insurance.

Sue,
I would like to try to convince my insurance company to pay for the program. Which documents did you send to the insurance? Is it by chance "West great life"?
Thanks, Liliya

No, It's actually Sun Life. I guess it's part of the package my company pays for. I do have to give them a note from the doctor stating that my BMI is 30 or greater. Which it definitely was when I started this program. I work for a pretty big company so maybe that makes the difference somehow.

Blue Cross doesn't pay for them as well. And no, Alberta Health Care doesn't pay for it.

Thanks for responding to this question everyone. I had a doctors appointment today and asked the question to the doctor. She said that the doctors visits are covered through AHC but that it depends on the benefits company if they are willing to pay for the injections and the micro-k. The doctor also said that the forms for claiming benefits are at the nurses station and they can help fill them out. I start on benefits February 1, 2007. I am going to try and claim mid to end of February and will let everyone know how it goes. I wonder if it can be claim on personal taxes then if not through company benefits? Let me know what you find out and I will do the same. Thanks everyone! Robin

If your medical expenses are greater than 3% of you income, they can be claimed on your annual income tax return.

It does all depend on your company's plan - I'm with Sun Life but some companys with Sun Life do get it covered (usually large companies).
